Paddling/Camping in the Adirondacks
September 23 – September 27
There is nothing like fall in the Adirondacks!
I am planning a paddling/camping week in the Adirondacks and want you to consider joining us.
The dates are September 23 – 27, 2019. This year we will set up camp at a state campground and then take day paddles at different lakes/ ponds/creeks each day. This would allow us to do all our paddling with unloaded boats rather than paddling “loaded” to an isolated campsite and of course “loaded” back to put-in and cars.
The campground is Fish Creek Ponds Public Campground, located off Rt 30 at Square Pond and Fish Creek Ponds in the St. Regis Canoe Wilderness. Using this campground as a base, there are innumerable day paddling options within a 5 to 10 mile radius. Also, a day hike or even bicycle ride could be in the mix. Fishing on these lakes is excellent and in past years we have had plenty of catch for dinners.
The Fall colors should be spectacular.
Getting to the campground from the Poughkeepsie/Newburgh area is a 4 & half hour drive.
The Fish Creek Ponds Campground is open until Oct 26 and at present there are plenty of campsites available. Rules are a maximum of 3 tents and six campers to a campsite. There is a per night campsite fee of $22 (for the campsite, not per person) and reservations through “reserveamerica.com” are required. I have a “ Reserve America” account and can make the reservations for the group.
Since we will be parking at our camping location, the number of days you might stay is flexible. If you plan to fish, obtain a NYS license at Dick’s Sporting Goods or online: https://decals.dec.ny.gov/DECALSCitizenWeb/citizenhome. htm
Please let me know soon if you will be interested in participating in this adventure. Feel free to share this invite to other paddlers/campers who may be interested.
